At the Toronto Garlic Festival, garlic lovers from all over come together to celebrate Ontario’s garlic harvest—and this year, they had a chance to compete for the ultimate honor: the strongest garlic breath! The Garlic Breath Contest gave festivalgoers a fun, scientific way to test just how potent their breath could be, using Interscan’s Halimeter Plus, a specialized machine that measures volatile compounds.
Participants eagerly lined up after indulging in garlic-rich foods, from garlic shots to garlic croissants, to see if their breath could top the charts. Some came prepared with cloves of raw garlic, determined to outdo their competitors. The Halimeter extracted breath samples and provided instant readings, creating an atmosphere of friendly competition and laughter.
By the end of the contest, one lucky (and very garlicky) winner walked away with a prize and the bragging rights of having the stinkiest breath of the day! Whether they hit a score of 100, 200, or even over 300, each participant left with a memorable experience and, of course, a lingering garlic aroma.
