Ethylene Oxide (C2H4O) Detection

Portable & fixed-point C2H4O detectors for healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing, agriculture, and environmental testing.

About Ethylene Oxide Detection

Ethylene Oxide is a colorless gas with a sweet ether-like odor, primarily utilized for the sterilization of medical equipment and in the manufacture of antifreeze, textiles, detergents, and polyurethane foam.

It’s also a key intermediate in the production of various solvents and pharmaceuticals. Due to its carcinogenic nature and flammability, ethylene oxide requires stringent control measures to protect workers and the environment from exposure.

Common Challenges

  • Ensuring adequate ventilation and containment to prevent exposure.
  • Implementing effective monitoring and detection systems to identify leaks.
  • Maintaining compliance with stringent regulatory standards due to its carcinogenic properties.

Current Guidelines OSHA:

  • PEL-TWA: 1 ppm [0.5 ppm Action Level]
  • PEL-STEL: 5 ppm
  • PEL-C: 5 ppm [15 minute excursion limit]

In agriculture, ethylene oxide is used for fumigation purposes. It's critical to monitor its levels to ensure that it doesn't pose a risk to food safety or to workers handling these chemicals. Read more...

Ethylene oxide is primarily used for sterilizing medical equipment, especially items that can't withstand high-temperature steam sterilization. Monitoring C2H4O levels is crucial to ensure complete sterilization while protecting healthcare workers from exposure to this carcinogenic gas. Read more...

Ethylene oxide is used in the textile industry for modifying the properties of certain fabrics. Accurate monitoring is necessary in these processes to prevent harmful exposure and ensure the safety of the finished products. Read more...
